Monte Sant’Angelo is situated on the southern spur of Gargano promontory with a view over Tavoliere (the large plain) and the gulf of Manfredonia. Because of the spur of limestone, there are many caves and among them the most famous is that of the altar of Saint Michael the Archangel.
